SIMPLE PRESENT











Simple present

It is used to describe habitual actions that occur frequently and does not refer to whether it is happening at the present time.
Examples:

  • I study English every day
  • She watches television at 9 pm

Positive prayers

Subject + main verb in this single + complement

Examples:
  • I study English every day
  • She watches TV at 9 pm

It is worth noting that if the personal pronouns SHE, HE, IT, singular nouns or common nouns (dog, table, house), proper names (Maria, Carlos) used the verb undergoes changes according to the following criteria:
  • If the verb ends in X, SH, CH, O, SS, Z must be added at the end "ES"

Examples:

Fix = Fixes
Wash = Washes
Catch = Catches
Miss = Misses
Go = Goes


  • If the verb ends in different combination to X, SH, CH, O, SS, Z must be added at the end "S"

Examples:

Work = Works
Clean = Cleans
Know = Knows
Call = Calls
Send = Sends


  • If the verb ends in "Y" but first has a vowel, you add "S" at the end

Examples:

Play = Plays
Stay = Stays


  • If the verb ends in "Y" but before has a consonant, eliminating the "Y" and "IES" is added

Examples:

Fly = Flies
Study = Studies

NOTE: These criteria only apply in positive sentences in present simple

Negative sentences

Subject + auxiliary "do" or "does" + NOT + verb + complement its base form

Examples:
  • I do not study English every day
  • She does not watch TV at 9 pm

IMPORTANT: The personal pronouns I, YOU, WE, THEY go with the auxiliary "do" and personal pronouns SHE, HE, IT go with the auxiliary "does".
On the other hand, if you want to make the contraction (union) of the auxiliary with denial, would be as follows:
  • don’t study English every day
  • She doesn’t watch TV at 9 pm

Simple questions

Auxiliary "do" or "does" + subject + verb in its base form + complement +?

Examples:
  • Do you study English every day?
  • Does she watch TV at 9 pm?

Short answers

If positive: Yes +, + subject + auxiliary "do" or "does"
Examples:
  • Yes, I do.
  • Yes, she does.

If NEGATIVE: No +, + subject + auxiliary "do" or "does" + NOT
Examples:
  • No, I do not / don’t
  • No, she does not / doesn’t

Long answers

If positive: Yes +, + positive present simple prayer (see in the first part as the positive statements in this simplest form)
Examples:
  • Yes, I study English every day
  • Yes, she watches TV at 9 pm

If it is negative: No +, + present simple negative sentence (see the first part as negative sentences in simple present form)
Examples:
  • No, I do not / don’t study English every day
  • No, she does not / doesn’t watch TV at 9 pm

WH questions

interrogative [Who (Who), What (do), Where (where), When (When) Why (Why)] + auxiliary "do" or "does" + subject + verb in its base form + complement +?

IMPORTANT:

If the question word is used  WHO , no subject is placed in question

Example:

Who does watch TV at 9 pm?
AnswerShe  watches TV at 9 pm

If the question word is used  WHAT , not the supplement regularly placed in question

Example:

What do you study every day?
Answer : I study  Inglés  every day

If the question word is used  WHEN , no time phrase is placed in question

Example:

When do you study English?
Answer : I study Inglés  every day

If the question word is used  WHERE , no place is placed in question

Example:

Where do you study English every day?
Answer : I study Inglés  at home  every day

If the question word is used  WHY , BECAUSE must respond

Example:

Why do you study English every day?
Answer : Because I like it
